Black-headed Hen
Gouldian Finches
Red-headed Cock
There are a number of colour varieties besides these, but these represent the pair that I keep.
The hen is called Lucy and the cock Henry. They have not yet made any attempt at breeding but, as Lucy was only born in Summer 2000, I am inclined to let her grow a little older before having a family.
They are currently sharing a large cage with my doves, quail and Strawberry finches. Aggressiveness has not proved to be a problem, in fact, they seem to enjoy following the larger birds around to see what is going on!
Henry is an accomplished songster and a pleasure to observe throughout the day.
They are fed the same diet as my zebra finches (see Zebra Page ) but also gain access to the quail mix in the cage bottom. Bathing daily is one of their most appealing habits, since they really seem to enjoy the occasion!
