Seed Mix
I mix up a number of different seeds to cater for my birds varying appetites. There is now very little wastage and in the mixed cage all the birds are satisfied. Strawberry finches like smaller millet seeds, some zebra finches will discard canary seeds and Java sparrows and Diamond doves like larger seeds. As a rule, if you find piles of a certain seed in the bottom of the feeder or on the cage floor, you need to consider changing you mixture. If it is convenient for you, you may want to provide different seeds in different containers in the cage so that the birds can show you which they prefer...
My seed mixture contains the following:
6kg Foriegn Finch Mix
6kg Mixed Millet
2kg Panicum Millet
2Kg Japanese Millet
I also mix the following for my Strawberry finches:
1 part Foreign Finch Mix
1 part Panicum Millet
1 part Japanese Millet
...... and a sprinkling of dried ant eggs!
