Strawberry Finches |
Strawberry finches are also known as Tiger finches. It is perhaps most accurate to refer to them as Red avadavats. They are an Asiatic Waxbill and, both in the UK and the US, are usually imports. Once settled however, they can make fine parents. A difficulty in breeding these birds is the fact that the male has two coats! The red is his nuptial plumage and when out of colour he will look exactly like a female. Both sexes sing but the male has a wide range of beautiful sounds- an absolute pleasure to listen to. |
These birds prefer to have smaller millet seeds in their mix and also relish livefood. |
